Day 206, Luck, chance, pick a card

Trying to get a reference to the 'Dance of Death' and football in here.

It won't work, no matter how convoluted it ends up being.

Hans Holbein made a series of woodcuts with scenes from the Dance of Death, these were loosely based on the Lübeck's original painting.  Lübeck painted a 30 meter long scene showing death with 24 humans dancing in a long chain.

The Ruskin gallery, before it was denuded of character by being moved from Norfolk Street to the Millennium Gallery, had an exhibition of the Holbein woodcuts.

The woodcuts were pretty impressive pieces of work.  Impressive though they were they would have had trouble passing a ball out of defence, through midfield to a pair of forwards, with any accuracy.  So quite like the real world then - although how an inanimate object like a woodcut could have ball skills conferred upon them is best not considered, although a woodcut might only be marginally less animated than many footballers.

Here are some Tarot cards featuring Death, in full Grim Reaper mode with scythe in hand.

What an amazing load of bollocks people allow their time to be consumed by.  That's both Tarot and football being referred to, and probably quite a lot of other unmentioned things too.
