Day 205, Dirty Den

The never ending bid to locate photographs that are definitely there but as yet unlocated continues.

While rummaging in one of the TARDIS like containers some odd things turn up.

In this instance the odd thing is Dirty Den in what was almost certainly the Christmas Day episode of Eastenders in 1988.  Nothing particularly special happened to Den Watts in this episode (as far as the internet is concerned at least) and I definitely, and absolutely, have no memory of this at all.

Apparently Eastenders used to be watchable back then, that's the only thing that my reconstruction of the memory tells me, otherwise why on earth would I be watching it.

As can be determined by the band across the screen this photograph was taken with a shutter speed greater than 1/25th of a second, adding a sort of pointless censorship to the mouth of the black and white image of Mr Watts.

Christmas day in 1988 was on a Sunday, and as can just about be made out from the clock it is almost 2pm.  The Eastenders Sunday episode in those days was an hour long as there were, sensibly, only two episodes per week.   There was no such thing as an extra long episode filmed live in front of a cast of Russian snipers in those days so that was all you got.  However, in this instance the TV was probably put on for the Top of the Pops Christmas Show that would be coming up at 3pm, so maybe Eastenders wasn't being watched deliberately even if it was watchable.

As can be determined by the light from the window it is a reasonable day without dark storm clouds.  And look, there is a bottle of the highest quality German wine that would have been available to a house full of dolites, or 'workshy scum' as we used to be called by the right wing media in the argot of the day.

No German taxi drivers were accidentally shot dead during the making of this blog.
