Things, here and there, apparently useless. Mislaid and without owner. Everybody has them somewhere, and probably bins them when they turn up and the use is unknown.
This bit was left by the gas service person, but is now effectively ownerless. I think it was part of the rugged laptop that was part of the gas service kit, obviously this bit wasn't as rugged as the rest.
I won't chuck it out yet, not until I've scrubbed this weird, anthropomorphic like attachment I've developed to it.*
* Starts OCD chant - must chuck it out, must chuck it out, must chuck it out...
