Assuming the job is removing the trailing wire from components after soldering.

Or things of a similar nature, such as these items as suggested by social media:

Nasal hair, ear hair, an unwanted intrusion from a finger through a letter box.*

But not for use with integrated circuits, an example being the NE555. use a socket for those.

For their ideal purpose they really do speed up the job.

* Not really sure about that last one, maybe I shouldn't canvas public opinion next time.
